Question:
You say that the Draw-Title hitch will interfere with the kick opening feature of the 2017 X3. Will this be the same issue with the Curt hitch? You also mention that it can be relocated if I use the Draw-Tite. How easy is that to do? Thank you

For your 2017 BMW X3, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13316 should not have any interference with the kick opening feature of the rear tail gate. I reached out to my contact at Curt to confirm they have not had any issues with interference. This installation will require a plastic rivit gun from a local hardware store and some trimming of the underbody but not the fascia. Relocation of the sensors if needed for a different hitch is not very difficult, but will take some willingness to modify your vehicle slightly.
For your vehicle trailer wiring if you will be towing with this receiver, I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236 if you don't mind splicing into your factory wires. If you don't wish to do that, I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. This harness uses zero contact interface sensors to capture the signal in the wires without tapping into them. Either system will use a battery power wire to protect the vehicle wiring by drawing power from the battery. The ZCI will also protect your vehicle warranty.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This adjustable ball mount will allow you to tow your trailer level and will give you both a 2 inch and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball option. This ball mount has a very cool stowable feature to protect your shins and give your vehicle a clean look when not in use.
