Question:
I purchased a car with a Yakima rack on it but no key for it. I noticed you sell replacement keys but how do I get it properly cut? Or how can I be sure its the right one? Thanks

You will need to get the lock code of the lock cylinder on the Yakima rack. Unfortunately, to do this the lock cylinder has to be removed from the rack. Since you do not have the key to do this, you will most likely have to find a lock smith who can remove the lock cylinder from the rack.
If you are planning to reuse the rack, then the number on the side of the cylinder will allow you to get replacement keys. You would go to our site and the key number will be Y8772- ****, like # Y8772-A149. The last four digits will be the number that is printed on the side of the lock cylinder.
If by chance you have trouble removing the lock cylinder or it gets damaged when removing, then you can by a new lock set with cylinders and keys for the Yakima rack. The Yakima Same Key System Lock Cores, # Y07202, is a lock kit that includes 2 lock cores, 2 keys and a master key.
