Cargo Carrier Recommendation for Avoiding Heat Build Up from Exhaust
Published 03/09/2017 >
Question:
Have 2016 Chevy Equinox with V6 and Dual exhaust coming straight out with no way to add elbows to redirect exhaust. Looking for a basket to carry containers on a 3000 mile trip. Are there heat deflectors to mount on the corners of the baskets available from any manufacturer? I think Rola or Stow-A-Way have them available for their oversized containers.

Your best option will be to go with a cargo carrier that has a rise built into the shank. This allows the cargo and the carrier to be above the heat as much as possible.
The Cargo Carrier, part # C18152, has a rise of 2-1/2 inches which is the highest we offer.
I also has 11-1/2 inches from the hitch pin of the carrier to the nearest portion of the tray to allow more distance for the heat to dissipate.
