Review of the Curt 24x60 Hitch Cargo Carrier

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt 24 x 60 Cargo Carrier. They've designed this with a 4 inch extended shank. It still has that 500 pound weight capacity. Part number is C18152. Installation is an easy process. We're just going to slide the shank into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up the hitch pin hole with the hole in the shank and we're going to slide through a standard 5/8 pin. Now the hitch pin and clip are sold separately.

We have those listed on our website as part number PC3. Now this is with any cargo carrier that we install using a pin and clip, we're going to have a little bit of movement out of it. That's to be expected. If you do want to get rid of that, we have a locking hitch bolt so you take care of locking it to your car and also getting rid of the movement. That part number is 63232. Now the cargo carrier is going to easily allow us to get all that gear out of the inside of the car outside, it's going to free up that space inside we need for maybe the passengers or the pets.

The mesh floor is going to allow any wet and dirty items to air out and the debris is not going to sit on top of this carrier and cause any kind of corrosion. We can simply hose it off, all that is going to run out. They've wrapped it in a real sturdy black powder coat finish. This is going to help resist that corrosion and give you a durable long lasting good looking cargo carrier. We've got raised side rails. These are 6 inches tall.

They go all the way around. They're going to give us multiple tie down point locations as we come around here so we can really get our gear secured. We've got reflectors located on three sides of the carrier. We've got one on each side and then two here in the rear. This is going to increase our on road visibility and let people know we've got something behind us.

Also when we're in camp or something like that, flashlights and headlights are going to make those reflectors shine letting people know we've got something behind the car. They've designed the shank with a nice rise and an angle that runs all the way here at the rear. That's going to increase our ground clearance here at the rear and also make loading a little bit easier because it's up here a little bit closer to waist height. Now we've got a couple of hundred pounds worth of gear we're going to throw in here and we're going to take it out through the test course so you can see what it looks like in action. Now that we've got our weight bags loaded up, I'm just going to throw a couple of straps around them so we can get on the test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. That's going to show us that side to side movement of the rack, very similar to like if we we're changing lanes or if we had to do some evasive maneuvers. As we go around the corner, we'll get into the alternating bumps. It's going to be just like maybe hitting a pothole or a curb, something like that. It's going to put some torquing action on the rack. Then we're going to go through the solid speed bumps. Of course that's going to be like going in and out of driveways or parking garages. That's going to show us how this cargo carrier is going to move up and down. That will complete today's look at the 24 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2 inch hitches, part number C18152. .
