Tire/Wheel Combo For 3,000-Lb 15-Ft Camper Trailer

Question:

Interested in the Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire w/13inch White Modular Wheel for a 3000 lb GVW 15foot camper. Is there another tire you would recommend for high speed interstate driving. Do the tires come balanced and if not do you recommend balancing them? Thanks

The Loadstar trailer tire you asked about is part # AM3S333. This tire/wheel combo has an 8-ply rating and has a maximum load capacity of 1,725 lbs at 65 psi. This combo has a speed rating of 65 mph. The wheel has a 5 on 4-1/2 wheel bolt pattern. For this size tire this is the tire I would recommend.

I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to determine the wheel bolt pattern on your trailer you can check out.

Most trailer tires do not have to be balanced. Tires and wheels have a high (heavy) spot and a low (light) spot. When the manufacturers mount the tires on the wheels, they try to offset the tire high spot and the wheel high spot to provide some level of balance.

You can have them balanced at a tire shop if you wish, but they do not need to be balanced to be used on your trailer.

Hi I have a popup camper that weighs between 2500 and 3000 pds. It seems a little heavy for the tires that are on it. It is a Starcraft popup with slideout dining area. I don’t won’t a blowout. What to you recommend?

@TimP Thanks for your question. Keep in mind that you should equip your trailer with the weakest link in mind. Check your trailer for the sticker that shows the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight. This is the most your trailer (fully loaded) is allowed to weigh. Lets say it says 2800 pounds. Check our axle sticker for the weight rating. Let's say it is 3200 pounds. If you have typical steel wheels - they will not be an issue. The leaf springs will have been matched to the axle(s) from the factory, so they should not be an issue. That means the weakest link is your 2800 pound GVWR. Buy tires that fit your wheels, are rated for your trailer weight (divided by the number of tire you have, and are rated for the speed you want to drive. If you can start by providing me these ratings, and tell me; how many axles you have, what size wheels you have, and tell me your lug bolt pattern I can make a recommendation. I have attached a page that will show you how to measure for the bolt pattern.

HI.. I am trying to find correct tire size for my 2001 Coleman Niagara Elite..2750 lbs. Manual say c78-13st...but cant find what that means. what is the difference between C and D and any input on exact tire size to hold that weight. Thank you

@DoreenL Hey Doreen, I was able to find some info about those tires you have now. Apparently the C78-31ST is the older way of identifying tires but that size is equivalent to the ST175/80D13 tire size like # AM1ST76. As far as the C and D goes, C is 6ply and D is 8ply.
