Best Tire Chain Recommendation for Ice for Jeep Wrangler 245/75-16

Updated 02/20/2017 | Published 02/18/2017

Question:

I have an older Chevy 2500 plow truck with Wrangler 245/75/r16 tires and this year was challenged with an early season of thick ice on my 3/4 mile long stone access road on my farm. Even with new Wrangler tires, it was no match for the 8inch fresh of fresh snow over the top of the ice. For years I have used a twist-link cross chain on my ATV over a frozen lake and was thinking of buying something like a TC2821 for the truck. Then I was looking at the Pewag ASV81 because it was rated so high, but how good would a square chain be on ice. I dont worry about snow, my truck handles over 12 inches of snow with no problem without chains. Ice is a different issue.

For ice you really want to use V-bar chains as they are designed to break up the ice. Square links are best for deep snow and twist link are for people who want a smoother ride quality.

For your tire size of 245/75-16 you would want the Titan chains part # TC2821CAM and you'll have no problem with the ice.
