How to Use the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack on a Jeep Wrangler with a Big Spare Tire

Published 02/10/2017

Question:

I have a swagman XTC2 and I also have a jeep with a big spare tire. I cannot open my gate as the tire crazes the top of it enough to stop it from opening. I cannot find a straightinch swagman shank the 3inch rise is the problem, so do I need to just get one of those dual 2inch receivers and flip it upside down to get the ? This is so frustrating.

I have some recommendations for High-Low Adapters that will help your situation, just keep in mind that they will reduce your Tongue Weight capacity by 50 percent and they may add some play to your Swagman XTC2 # S64670.

Roadmaster has a few different options that you will want to look at. They both have a Rise/Drop of 6 inches but they have different tongue weight ratings. The Adapter part # RM-076 is the more economic way to go, but it only has a Tongue Weight of 100 lbs. The adapter that I recommend using is part # RM-048-6 which has a Gross Towing Weight of 10,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight of 400 lbs.

If you think that a 6 inch drop might be a little too much, we also have a 4 inch option available as well. The Roadmaster Adapter # RM-048-4 is another great option and it has a 400 lbs Tongue Weight rating.

Since using an adapter will cause your bike rack to move around some while you are hauling I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap # 18050 to help reduce the sway.

I have attached some demonstration videos for you as well.
