Ways to Carry Canoes on a 2015 Ford Edge

Updated 02/08/2017 | Published 02/07/2017

Question:

I need to carry one and sometimes 2 17 foot canoes on the top of my Ford Edge. Yakima makes a nice Rack system but I still need to tie down the front of the canoe to the front of the vehicle. However in looking at the underside of the front end of the Edge there does not seem to be anything of any structure to tie, fasten, or bolt to, everything is smooth plastic. Any suggestions?

A great solution for the bow and stern tie-downs on your 2015 Ford Edge are Malone Hood Loops # MPG308. You just close them under the hood and trunk of your Edge and then connect them to the canoe.

You mentioned a Yakima roof rack. If your Edge has a naked roof with no factory rails the parts needed for a Yakima rack are:

50 inch JetStream Cross Bars # Y00425
BaseLine Towers # Y28TR
Fit Kit # Y06102 and # Y06139

Then you can add the Yakima KeelOver # Y04069 to carry the canoe on the crossbars.

With such a long canoe another option is the Yakima LongArm, part # Y01149-1150. This mounts into a trailer hitch receiver and provides a load bar to help you with long items. If you don't already have a trailer hitch receiver, # 75234 is confirmed to fit.
