What is the difference between a strap hinge and a over the seal hinge?

In the case of hinge # PLR2512-AS, which is an over the seal hinge, and a strap hinge # 2512, there isn't a difference. A hinge that is designed with that raised section near that actual hinge part can be considered an over the seal hinge because it reaches over a seal or molding. It just so happens that many hinges described as strap hinges have the same design. I have linked videos on both hinges for you.
