I am considering purchasing the skybox nx16 for our new 2017 subaru outback we just purchased and I would like to know if this particular one will allow me to open my hatch all the way. Thank you

You can take a quick measurement to make sure the Yakima SkyBox NX 16, part # Y95AV will work with your Subaru hatch opening.

If your front crossbar can be moved, move it forward as far as it can go. Then measure from the center of the front crossbar rearward to the seam that separates the roof and the hatch. For the hatch to be able to open all the way with the SkyBox NX 16, that distance has to be 47-inches or more.

The SkyBox NX 16 is a really nice cargo box that can be opened from either side of the vehicle. This box measures 75-1/2-inches long, 35-inches wide, and 16-inches tall.

If you find you do not have enough room to open the hatch you may want to check out the RocketBox Pro 14, part # Y07192. This box requires 45-inches of clearance form the front crossbar to the seam. This box also features dual-side opening and it measures 74-inches long x 33-inches wide x 16-inches tall.

It can be tough to reach the inside of the box from the ground so you may be interested in a tire step like part # PT68ZR. This step slips over the tire and has a weight capacity of 250-lbs.
