Fit of the Reese OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2017 Ram 3500 6 ft Bed and the Reese Sidewinder Pin Box

Question:

I have a 2017 Grand Design Solitude 384GK with a Trailair Rota-Flex 1621 replaced Lippert 1621 pin box. I want to replace it with a Reese Sidewinder. I will be purchasing a new Ram 3500 6-4 box with factory fifth wheel mounts. The fifth wheel hitch I think I need is the Reese Drop In for Ram 25003500 Model 30918. I would like you to confirm that I can use the Sidewinder to replace my Trailair pin box. Please advise if so and model numbers needed. Thank you.

Yes, a Reese Sidewinder Pin Box and Reese OEM 5th Wheel Hitch, # RP30918, can work together on a 2017 Ram 3500 with 6 ft. 4 in. bed with the # RP44FR wedge kit.

If your original pin box was the Lippert 1621, then the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin 20,000 lbs # RP34FR will fit on your Grand Design Solitude trailer. Since the pivot point will be 22 inches behind the king pin and the pivot point will be extended back from the cab of the truck there will be no issues in making turns with your short bed vehicle.
