Carrying More than 2 Bikes on a 2017 Honda HR-V

Updated 12/09/2016 | Published 12/08/2016

Question:

I have a Thule Vertex 9029XT. Would it matter how many bikes I put on the rack? I have two adult bilkes, a junior and a kid size. Or would it only matter to stay under the thong weight? Do you know if any of the manufacturers will be producing a class II in the near feature for the Honda HRV? Thank you!

The trailer hitches designed for the 2017 Honda HR-V are all Class I hitches and they are not likely going to produce a Class II hitch for it. Since the hitches are Class I you will be limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch even if the bike rack can hold more. The issue is not the amount of weight but the distance of that weight from the receiver.

What I recommend is to use a trunk mount bike rack that holds 3 bikes. If the kid's bike is small enough you might be able to put it in the vehicle.

There are several 3-bike trunk mount racks that will fit and I have included a link to them for you. Most are going to require the use of hatch hugger accessory # SA3035.
