I checked the online manual for the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 and it states that tire chains are only to be used on the rear wheels. Your owners manual may have different information for your specific vehicle. The # PW1046 Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains are the correct size for your rear 285/35-18 wheel and tire combination.
You will need to check your owners manual or with the Mercedes dealer to determine if snow chains can be used on the front tires of your specific vehicle. If you have an AWD model you may be able to put chains on the front of the vehicle but they would not be required. Snow chains are designed for traction to keep the vehicle moving in adverse conditions and do not add to the stability of the vehicle.
If your vehicle owners manual or dealer says that you can use snow chains on the front tires of your CLS, then the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, item # PW1038, will be the correct size for your 255/40-18 front wheel and tire combination. The # PW1946V chains are too large for your front tires, and there are no V-Trac Chains available for your front tire size at this time.
Snow chains are designed to be used at low speeds, 20 mph or less, and actually reduce stability, and stopping at higher speeds. Once road conditions improve to the point that you can drive at higher speeds snow chains should be removed.
