Gauge of Wire for Using as Charge Wire for Trailer Battery

Question:

My trailer connector needs a wire from the battery to connect and charge the trailer battery. Its a Scamp trailer. What wire gauge should I use? 10 AWG? What fuse should I use? Thanks.

For charging a trailer battery you want to go with as thick of wire as you can. 10 gauge would be ideal. We sell 10 gauge wire by the foot with part # 10-1-1.

Typically a 40 amp breaker like part # 9510 is used.

Batteries should be vented if they are installed in an enclosed area. Using a Battery Box Vent #A10-3300BK-05 will allow gases from the battery to vent outside your enclosed trailer if the battery is enclosed in a box or small area.
