Recommedation On Tire Chains For A 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Question:

We have a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek and the owners manual notes no tire chains but alternative devices ok due to clearance. A class is recommended and does the Thule CG 9 work on the Crosstrek?

The Thule Self-Tensioning Low-Profile Snow Tire Chains # TH00023103 are fitted by tire size. The factory tire size on the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek was 225/55-17. If this is the size tires on your vehicle, then # TH000023103 will fit your tires.

Though the Thule # TH00023103 only require 9 mm of clearance, they are technically chains, so there might be a warranty issue since Subaru states not to use tire chains. In this case, I recommend the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW1038. The Glacier cables are an alternative snow traction device that is rate SAE Class S. The Glacier product will fit the the 225/55-17 tire that was factory installed on the Subaru XV Crosstrek.
