Finding Third Brake Light Circuit for Camper Shell on 2009 Chevy Silverado

Question:

2009 Chevy silverado 2500 HD. I want to know to hook up the third brake and interier lights on an ARE truck cap DCU series commercial. Truck comes with towing package which includes 7 way connector plug. Also is there a wiring harness adaptor available or do you have to splice wire? Thank you,

Typically near the 7-way wiring on Chevy trucks there is a dedicated third brake light circuit that is to be used for wiring up the third brake light of a camper shell.

The main trailer wiring harness is located under the truck bed, usually above the spare tire. There is usually a socket for your trailer connector to plug into, but if you peel back the wire loom you will find a light blue wire further up in the wiring harness that is intended for use for a third brake lamp on a camper shell.
