Recommended Husky Weight Distribution Ball and Spacer Replacements

Question:

On my recent trip from MI to Yellowstone I broke one of my round bar weight distribution bars. It was a Saturday afternoon and the ONLY option I had was to purchase a new hitch assembly. I should have done it before I left like I had been thinking about anyway time to pay stupid tax :o I purchased a Husky CenterLine TS. I purchased the display model because it is the only hitch they had. The display did not come with a ball so I purchased one of those as well. My problem came later in the trip when I realized that the frame of my 29BHS Jayco actually hit the hitch when I turned too tight. Upon further examination of the Husky hitch on your site I noticed that the Husky hitch has a taller ball with a spacer under it. I need to do something to prevent this from happening. I need at least an inch and a half rise to clear my trailer. How much rise does the Husky come with? Would it be a problem to run a 2inch rise ball on the Husky hitch?

After speaking to my contact at Husky I found that the ball platform bushing is something the can be purchased separately part # HT32336. This bushing will only work with 1-1/4 inch outer diameter shanks. The bushing will be 7/16 inches thick by itself.

The typical ball with bushing on the Husky CenterLine TS systems will be 3-5/8 inches tall from the platform itself. The ball alone is 3-3/16 inches in height. Depending on which system you have will depend on which replacement ball you will need. For 8K systems with 2 inch ball you will want the # HT33853, for 12K systems 2-5/16 inch ball # HT39386, and 14K systems 2-5/16 inch ball # HT30678.

After speaking to my contact at Husky he told me that they would not recommend it using a ball with a 2 inch rise because, changing the standard ball to one with a 2 inch rise will lower the gross weight capacity of the hitch.
