Use Can Bike Frame Adapter Bars Be Used with Trunk Mounted Bike Racks

I have a womens beach cruiser and have used the Yakima frame adapter bar on a trailer hitch rack. Is there a reason that it is only specified to be used with a hitch rack and not a trunk rack? I plan on purchasing the Yakima Fullback for my 2015 Toyota Rav4 but want to make sure I can use the adapter for putting my bike on a trunk rack.
