Selecting 1-1/4-inch Hitch Cargo Carrier to Transport 200-lb Scooter
Updated 08/08/2016 | Published 08/06/2016 >
Question:
I have an Allegro diesel bus, 38 ft, towing a car, with a double hitch. 2 inch for tow bar and a 1 1/4 inch on top for a bike rack or carrier. Would like to haul my 50 cc scooter on top hitch weighs 200 pounds. What would you recommend to do this. Thank you

Before choosing a hitch-mount cargo carrier to transport your 200-lb scooter, you will want to confirm the tongue weight (TW) rating of the upper receiver on your motorhome's hitch. This upper receiver (and the motorhome itself) must be rated to handle the combined TW of the scooter itself plus the weight of the particular carrier you select.
For example, the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 will fit into a 1-1/4-inch hitch receiver and it has a 300-lb cargo capacity, plenty for your 200-lb scooter. Since this carrier weighs about 30-lbs, this weight added to your 200-lb scooter means a load on the upper receiver of 230-lbs. So long as your scooter will fit in the carrier's platform area of 47-11/16-inches long x 19-1/2-inches wide, and so long as your upper receiver and MH can handle this amount of tongue weight, you'll be all set.
This carrier has 3-3/4-inches of rise in its shank for better clearance above your tow bar.
Please note that the hitch-mount motorcycle carriers we offer, such as # e98873 from etrailer, are only offered in the 2-inch size.
