Question:

I am looking for a top wound cable winch, 1000 to 3000 lb range, similar to # DL10950. I need it to be reversible, but more importantly, have a neutral setting so I can free wheel the cable off the drum. Is there anything available?

I have a recommendation for you, but unfortunately we do not have a Worm-Gear Hand Winch that has a free wheel option. The closest winch we offer to fit your needs is the Dutton-Lainson Freewheeling Brake Winch with TuffPlate Finish # DL14996.

This winch is self locking, has a weight capacity of 1,500 lbs. and has a free wheel option. The handle sits on the side and is not reversible. It does need at least 75 lbs. for this winch to operate properly and the handle is included with this winch.

If you are needing a worm gear winch due to handle clearance, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch for 2,000 lbs. # DL11001. I recommend this winch as it comes with Hex Drive so you are able to operate the winch with a power drill attached directly to the drive shaft. This winch does not have a free spooling option.

I recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch Wire Cable with Safety Hook # DL24104 to use with both winches. This cable is 50' long and has a 3,500 lbs. capacity.
