Base Plates, Wiring, Safety Cables, Braking System to Flat Tow a 1994 Chevy 1500

We do have several options of base plates available as long as your 1994 Chevy pickup is not a 1 ton or diesel. A 1500 means that it is a half ton so as long as it is not a diesel, there are base plates available.

There is another important measurement to take to determine the correct base plates. Under the front of the truck, on the outside of the frame rail look for holes on the side of frame, and an elongated hole underneath. Measure the distance from the lowest threaded hole on the side of the frame, to the center line dissecting the elongated hole. It will either be 3 inches or 1-1/4 inches.

For 3 inches, you can use XL base plates, # 131-15.

For 1-1/4 inches, you can use MX base plates # 131-3.

You will be able to use the RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520, with any of these base plates.

I also recommend safety cables and a light kit as required by law. For safety cables, I recommend the Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643. For a temporary lighting solution, use the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120. These lights have a magnet that will stick to a flat metal surface and plug into a 4-flat on the tow vehicle. For a more permanent solution, I recommend the Tail Light Isolating Diode System with Wiring Harness, # 38955. I have included an installation video and demonstration video of this kit below.

You might also be interested in a supplemental brake kit. The easiest to use and install is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This unit installs quickly so you are ready to go in minutes. It engages the towed vehicle brakes proportionally to how much the towing vehicle is braking, reducing wear of both the towing vehicle and towed vehicle brakes.

Finally, you will need to check with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your vehicle because some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
