First, you will need a seat adapter. You will need part # RM-88181. If your motorhome has a Spartan Chassis, you will need to add an air spring assist tank also known as a ping tank, from Spartan. If fuses have to be removed for the vehicle to be towed (check owners manual on towing procedures) then just make sure that the removal of the fuses does not remove power to or affect operation of the BrakeMaster system.
Once ready to tow and all adjustments have been made (for example fuses pulled if needed, vehicle placed in proper gear) apply the brakes on the Trailblazer. If the brakes do not light up, a two-prong stop light switch and 10 amp fuse must be installed or a Brake-Lite Relay, # RM-88400, may be required.
To determine if a Brake-Lite Relay must be installed, without starting the towed vehicle, press the brake pedal. If the brake lights illuminate, the Brake-Lite Relay must be installed, unless the towed vehicle has a bulb and socket set (also called a taillight kit), or a magnet light system, like # RM-2120, or the towed vehicle has separate brake and turn signals.
You may need a tee to connect the BrakeMaster system to the motorhome brake relay valve or air boost housing. For 1/2 inch, use Air Line Tee for BrakeMaster Brake System, # RM-450076. For 3/8 inch use Air Line Tee for BrakeMaster Brake System, # RM-450077.
There is quite a bit of work involved in installing one of these systems, but since you have extensive automotive experience, you will probably not have much trouble. We do have a portable system that is much easier to install. Take a look at the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This system will eliminate the hassle and headaches of installing a more involved system. Installing can be done in just a few minutes.
