Tow Bar Recommendation for Flat Towing 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ at Highways Speeds with Ford F-150

Hello, I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ that I want to flat tow behind an RV motorhome and a Ford F150 Pickup truck. I understand that some tow bars are only rated for a maxium 45mph. I plan to tow at highway speeds 60-70mph for long distances. What towbar setup do you recommend for my situation? Thank you!

The Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar 63180 does have a speed limitation of 45 miles per hour, but this is the only tow bar we offer with a limit on driving speed.

A great option for a tow bar that does not have a speed limit and will work well for you is the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520. I recommend the Falcon 2 tow bar because it is a popular tow bar from a high quality manufacturer that is a leader in the flat towing industry. The Falcon 2 is a hitch-mounted tow bar that will store on the trailer hitch of the F-150 when not in use, leaving the front of the Wrangler open.

There are a number of other components you will need in order to flat tow your Wrangler, such as a base plate kit, tow bar wiring, safety cables, and a supplemental braking system. If your Wrangler has a U-channel bumper, the Roadmaster Classic Base Plate Kit # 1409-1 is a great option to fit your vehicle and the Falcon 2 tow bar. The installation instructions for the base plate kit are linked for you.

I recommend using safety cables such as Roadmaster's 68 Inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643 as the coiled design will help keep the cables off the ground while towing.

For tow bar wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit will provide you with the diodes, wiring, and connector to wire up your Wrangler so the taillights will work in tandem with the F-150's taillights. The Flexo-Coil wiring will bridge the space between the trailer connector at the rear of your tow vehicle and the plug at the front of your Jeep.

The supplemental braking system I recommend is the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. This is a proportional braking system that will apply the Wrangler's brakes with the same intensity as the brakes are being applied in the F-150. It's easy to set up each time you're ready to tow and doesn't need to be taken out of the Jeep when you're not towing.
