Question:
Will I be able to open the tailgate on my truck while the gate is installed

If the # M2200-01-02 Carpod Cargo Carrier is collapsed down (see photo), you'll be able to open your tailgate, but if the carrier is in its set-up position, the nearest wall of the carrier will be 4 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole. This wouldn't allow enough room to lower the tailgate.
We do offer carriers that are placed further away from the bumper, like the Curt # C18151. To see if this carrier would allow your tailgate to open when loaded, open the tailgate and measure 19 inches rearward. If the 19 inch mark clears the furthest rearward point of the tailgate when it's open, then the C18151 carrier would allow the tailgate to open.
We offer a weatherproof cargo bag that woiuld work very well with the carrier, part # 988501.
