What Percentage of Total Trailer weight is Tongue Weight Typically

Question:
I have a trailer single axle with a gvwr of 2900 lbs. How is the tongue weight calculated ? In other words , if there is 300 lbs. of weight on the tongue can there be 2900 pounds on the axle? thanks

Typically trailer tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total weight of the trailer.
If your loaded tongue weight is 300 lbs your trailer would most likely weigh right around the 2,900 lb figure you mentioned or slightly less.
The only sure way to know would be to take the trailer to a weigh station and have it weighed.
