Winch Recommendation for a Deer Lift for 300 lbs

Question:

I need a hand winch for a deer lift. It will be used by a elderly man and women. It will need to lift and hold up to 300lbs. Would like it to free wheel and be weather resistant. Thank you very much.

I spoke with another member of our content team who uses a similar winch for deer feeder poles. He informed me that the Dutton Lainson part # DL15002, would be a great choice.

If you flip the switch on the winch it can then free wheel in or out. This winch has a zinc coating that will help prevent corrosion as well.

You wouldn't want to use the winch to permanently hold 300 lbs in the air. You would want to use the winch for lifting but then transfer the weight to a chain if the plan is to leave it unattended. Also don't stand under the winch while anything is suspended from it.
