Question:
Hello, Im looking for a rear-mount bike rack for 1-2 bikes for my Mazda CX-5 and I really like the Saris Bones 2 SA805. I just have one question - would I be able to open the trunk with the bike rack installed no bikes on it, of course, or would I need to uninstall the rack for trunk access? Are there other rear-mount bike rack models that fit my CX-5 and dont need to be uninstalled for trunk access? Thanks

If you need truck access often, I have a solution for you, but bike rack manufacturers do not recommend opening the rear hatch or trunk with a bike rack installed. The door hinges are not designed to hold the extra weight and the rear door could come down on whoever is underneath. There is also a chance that the bike rack could fall off and scratch the paint.
If you need to access the trunk often, I suggest a hitch mounted bike rack which can fold down, giving you access to open the trunk. I have attached links to our hitch receivers and hitch-mounted bike rack product pages. I recommend Thule Hitching Post Pro Hitch-Mounted bike rack # TH934XTR. This rack can carry up to four bikes and can tilt down for easy access to the trunk. If you do not already have a hitch installed on your vehicle, I recommend Curt Hitch Receiver # C13315. This hitch fits 2013-2016 Mazda CX5's.
The Saris Bones 2 # SA805BL is quick and easy to uninstall, around 5 minutes. Trunk racks unhook from the trunk door and fold down for easy storage. The Saris Bones 2 is a great bike carrier and is made from injection-molded plastic which creates a durable and rustproof rack. This rack is confirmed by Saris to fit your vehicle.
If you are carrying any women's children's or alternative framed bikes without the top horizontal cross tube, you may want to consider a bike adapter bar similar to # TH982XT to make loading bikes easier.
I have attached a review video of the Saris Bones 2, the Hitching Post Pro and the bike adapter bar for you to check out.
