Question:

I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta that I am setting up to flat tow behind my RV. I will be purchasing the Blue Ox Patriot II braking system. I will be using the Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. I need a recommendation on the wiring system to purchase. I have an auto trans. I would like to use the existing tail lights. I see three of four options and dont know which to choose. Also do all require a battery disconnect?

If you're wanting to use the existing taillights, I recommend the Roadmater universal diode kit, part # RM-154. The kit would hardwire into your existing taillight circuits, and would be easier to install with fewer connections than a diode kit.

The need for a battery disconnect isn't dependent on which wiring kit you use, the need to use the battery disconnect is specifically mentioned in the owner's manual. Techincally you can just disconnect your battery manuall but a battery disconnect makes the process easier.

In order to flat tow the vehicle and prevent the battery from becoming discharged while the vehicle's being towed, a # RM-766 Roadmaster Battery Disconnect is needed.

Before flat towing your vehicle, be sure follow the guidelines laid out in the 'Recreational Towing' section of your owner's manual. Ford lists very specific procedures for flat towing the vehicle, you'll need to follow them carefully to avoid damaging your vehicle.
