Will Curt Trailer Hitch # 14001 Fit a 1992 Ford F-150 Flareside

Updated 05/13/2020 | Published 07/27/2010

Question:

will this hitch mount to a 4x2 flare side model of the F150 and why does it say mounts to models with 37in frame, did they make a 150 with a narrow frame?

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he stated that the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 14001, will fit your 1992 Ford F-150 flareside. I have included a link to the installation details below.

There are cab and chassis models that have a 34 inch frame.

If you plan on doing some towing with this hitch you will need a ball mount, hitch ball, and wiring. The recommended ball mount is # 40331, you can use hitch ball # A-90 (2 inch diameter) or # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter).

For wiring, you will need T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 118316. This is a T-one connector that plugs in line with your vehicles taillights. I have included a link to the installation details and a video showing the installation of this harness on a similar vehicle.

I see some say will not fit models with roll pan. I have the roll pan but don't care about cutting roll pan to fit. is this still a problem? when I measured my rails I got 36" where should I measure to confirm size? also on 92 flareside

The frame rail spacing should be the same on your F-150 with the roll pan bumper. You can probably get the Curt # 14001 to fit but it'll require some pretty significant modifications to the bumper. I think going with one that's designed to work with this style bumper like the Draw-Tite # 41004 will be a better option.
