Question:

Hi! I have a Luna Evolo electric bike that weighs 60 pounds. Will one of your bike racks be secure behind my 2015 Tacoma Truck carrying a 2015 small RPod trailer? Thanks! I am not mechanically inclined so all the information baffles me! Sorry.

I did some online research on an Rpod trailer. If you have a trailer jack and a propane tank mounted on the front of the trailer frame it really limits the amount of space you have for a bike rack. Mounting anything between the truck and the trailer can cause issues when executing turns.

You can use a dual purpose trailer hitch receiver like part # D210. The lower ball mount will let you connect your Rpod and the upper receiver can hold a bike carrier like the Swagman Original, part # S64152-2. If you have a propane tank or a jack on the trailer, there can be clearance problems.

Depending on the construction at the rear of your trailer, you could install a hitch like part # 13703. This will attach to box frame, C-channel frame, or I-beam frames and is adjustable for frames that are between 22 and 72 inches. This hitch can be bolted to the trailer frame or can be welded by a certified professional. If you have a rear mounted spare tire, it may interfere with a bike rack mounted at the rear of the trailer. If you have the room, you could use part # S64152-2 in the hitch receiver opening. Per Curt, All non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc.) applied to this product must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps like part # 18050.

When carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.

If the bed of your truck is not being used, you can use a truck bed bike rack like part # UG2500. This clamps to the bed rails and holds the bike steady in the bed of the truck. It will work on bike frames up to 1-1/2 inches diameter. This includes a security cable and keys to secure the bike.
