Question:
Same question. I cant see the supportive video showing how to get the panel off. The connector is NOT where the instructions said it would be on my 2014 forester. Not your fault, I know. Things change....

The instructions indicate that the factory wiring connector in your Forester is under the cargo tray on the driver's side. We have found the connector in the Forester to be behind the driver's side panel in the cargo area, where the instructions suggest to look for a XV Crosstrek. These connectors do not always end up in the same place every time, as you said, things change. The installation instructions for the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040 are linked for you.
Our installers commonly use a trim panel tool, like # ALL648544, to remove vehicle trim. This tool helps remove the snap-in fasteners that hold the trim in place. Once the first fastener is undone, the trim usually will come easily when pulled off. I have attached a demonstration video of this tool for you.
I have also attached installation videos of this wiring harness on a 2014 and a 2015 Subaru Forester, and both videos show the process of removing the trim.
