Troubleshooting Thule Spare Me that Won't Fit 2009 Toyota Rav4

Question:

I have a silver framed spare tire bike rack. I bought it to fit a CRV 2001. I now have a 2009 RAV 4. The mounting plate doesnt seem to fit. Do I need a different plate?

It sounds like you have a Thule Spare Me # TH963PRO. And since it does not fit your 2009 Toyota Rav4 that would indicate to me that it is the older model. If you replace the mounting plate of your rack with the # 753-3532 you will be able to install the rack on your RAV4.

What you described is a fairly common problem with the older Spare Me and the Rav4 and Thule has told us that this is the correct way to address the problem.
