For a brake controller installation you will need a brake controller and wiring. The brake controller I recommend for your Commander is the Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to install and operate. The wiring you will need is part # ETBC7.
The 5-way flat harness you have on your Jeep is an aftermarket harness. In order to install a the ETBC7 there are a couple ways to do this. The 4-way connector on the ETBC7 may connect to the 5-way you have on your Commander. You would then need to run the balance of the wires from the back of the 7-way on the ETBC7.
Another way is to cut off the 5-way plug at the rear of your Jeep and then cut the 4-way connector off of the ETBC7 and splice it to the wires on the Jeep. I have attached a diagram that shows you how the wiring should be ran when installing a brake controller. The fifth wire from the is probably a reverse light circuit and would be connected to the back of the 7-way on the ETBC7. If you do not need the back up lights on the trailer you can just cap the line.
Since there is no plug and play for the brake controller you will need to hard wire it. The harness for the brake controller has 4 wires. The black will be attached to the positive post on the battery using an inline 30 amp circuit breaker. The white wire is attached to a clean bare metal surface for ground. The blue wire is run to the 7-way for the brake signal. The red wire is attached to the cold side of the stop light switch located under the dash above the brake pedal. Use the included circuit tester and attach the red wire to the wire that only shows current when the brake pedal is pressed.
