Can Tire Rated at 2540 lbs Be Mounted on Wheel With a Lower Weight Rating

Published 09/26/2015

Question:

Hello, I am interested in purchasing three of the Dexstar AM20537 wheels 15inch Mini Mod for my 07 Casita 17foot Spirit Deluxe trailer as an upgrade to the standard 14inch wheels. At the same time I would like to get load range D tires for an added safety measure load range C come standard and the fact I can run higher psi, but noticed that the weight capacity of the wheel is 2050 pounds and the load range D tires are 2150 pounds max load. I do not intend to exceed 3500 pounds GTWR for the trailer but will I have a problem having a trained tire technician mounted to the tires on these wheels? Thank you!

If you mount a tire on the Dexstar # AM20537 wheel that has a higher capacity or load rating than the wheel, you'll be limited to the capacity of the wheel, even though the tire has a higher capacity. You'll need to abide by the capacity of the lowest-rated component.

For tires, the Taskmaster ST225/75R-15 part # TTWTRTM2257515D would be a good choice. This is a radial load range D tire with a max load of 2540 lbs at 65 psi (but you'd be limited to the capacity of the wheel). This will give plenty of capacity for your travel trailer. You'll also need valve stems. I'd recommend part # AM20904.
