The Demco base plate kit that fits your 2001 VW New Beetle is part # DM9518071.

These base plates are compatible with the Commander tow bar, part # DM9511012. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for specific information regarding the recreational towing of your V-dub.

The safety cables are included with the Commander but you also need lighting and supplemental braking to flat tow the vehicle.

For lighting, I recommend a simple magnetic kit, # RM-2120. You will not have to cut into the vehicle wiring to install this kit.

Most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251.This is a proportional braking system that will apply the VW brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking.
