Measurement of Lippert Components Standard Replacement Shock LC283271

Question:
I am looking for a new trailer shock. The measurement on this shock shoes 12 inches open and 7 closed. Is this the over all length of the shock or from mounting area to mounting area open and closed?

I spoke with my contact at Lippert and he said the measurement of 12" extended and 7.5" compressed are measured from center of mounting area to center of mounting area.
