Jeep didn't put a brake controller connector under the dash of the 2012 Liberty.
To install a brake controller, you will need to a little bit of wiring. The wire Jeep provides is the electric brake output wire that goes back to the 7-Way trailer connector. This wire should be a light green or blue wire that is near the emergency brake pedal or above the kick panel to the left of the emergency brake pedal. It will connect to the blue wire on the brake controller.
You will need to wire the black, white, and red wires on the brake controller. Both the black and white wires will be routed through the firewall, into the engine compartment, and over to the battery. You will need the Draw-Tite Brake Controller Wiring Kit, part # 5506.
You can attach the black wire from the brake controller to the black wire in the duplex cable. Then attach the white wire from the brake controller to the white wire on the duplex cable. You will then need to route the duplex cable through the firewall to the battery. Separate the two wires and connect the white wire to the negative battery terminal. Check your brake controller instructions to see which size breaker is needed and either connect the black wire to the included 30 amp breaker, or the a 20 amp breaker (depending on how many axles the trailer has). You will then need to connect a wire from the breaker to the positive battery terminal.
Use a circuit tester like the Quickee Circuit Tester, part # PTW2993, to find the brake light wire on the stop light switch located above the brake pedal. Find the wire that carries a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed (it should be a white wire with a tan stripe). Tap the red brake controller wire into this circuit using a quick splice connector, part # SWC502905-1.
I'll link you to a video showing a brake controller being installed into an older model Grand Cherokee. Different vehicle, but the procedure would be the same.
