Question:
Can I carry 4 bikes with the Curt hitch? 2018 Honda hrv
asked by: Susan
Expert Reply:
The Curt hitch # C11416 is a Class I trailer hitch. On Class I hitches you are limited to 2 bikes at most. The reason for this is a third and subsequent bikes would be too far from the receiver. This will produce excessive stress on the hitch which can damage the hitch, the vehicle, and result in loss of the bikes and bike carrier. This hitch also has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds.
With a class I hitch, the remaining option is to carry bikes on either a trunk mount or hitch mount carrier and the other bikes on the roof of the vehicle.
You could, however, go with the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 306-X7322 instead. This hitch will allow you to carry up to 4 bikes as long as the weight of the hitch and the bikes stays under the tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds.
