Question:

I have researched your site and products and viewed the installation videos many times. I am confident I can install the base plate and tow bar, car lighting and fuse bypass. First, here is a list of what I think I need to complete the job to tow my 2014 Honda AWD CRV: Base plate - Blue Ox BX2258 Tow Bar - Blue ox Alpha Custom wiring - Hopkins HM 56304 for 2014 Honda CRV Invisibrake - RM8700 Brake light relay - RM88400 Fuse bypass RM76511 7 wire to 4 wire coiled cord Kit - RM-164-7 Blue Ox lock kit BX88177 I am not so confident with parts of the invisibrake installation. 1st - Im unsure of exactly where to locate the hole through the CRV firewall so it wont interfere with any of the brake lines or other parts on the engine side. 2nd - I think Ill need a brake light relay RM88400 since the CRVs brakes come on when the pedal is depressed and the key and engine are off. With the Hopkins wiring I will have a combined tail light, brake light, turn signal system. If I need the relay - does it interfere or interconnect in any way with the Invisibrake or the Hopkins custom tail light wiring? 3rd - My RVs 7 wire is set up to tow a cargo trailer with electric brakes . should I just disconnect the brake controller when using it to tow the CRV? Please check my list for omissions or errors, and give me any suggestions or opinions you may have. Thanks much!

You are correct with the parts you listed. I double checked for you, the Blue Ox Base Plates # BX2258, Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7380, Hopkins Tow Bar Wiring # HM56304, Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700 , Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay # RM-88400, Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass # RM76511, and Roadmaster 7-way to 4-way Extention # RM-164-7 will all fit and will be needed to flat tow your 2014 Honda CR-V. The Blue Ox Base Plate and Receiver Lock Kit # BX88177 is a great option for keeping your towed vehicle and system secure.

In the Roadmaster InvisiBrake installation video for the 2014 CR-V, we found it necessary to drill a hole through the firewall to run our wires. The location of this hole is just above and to the left of the gas pedal. The video shows the drilling and drilling location of this hole at the 6:52 mark of the video. Based on the installation instructions for the InvisiBrake, this hole will need to be a 1/2 inch hole through the firewall. Make sure all wires, tubes, and other vehicle components are out of the way and that you will be clearing everything in the engine compartment before drilling. In the video, we use a snap bushing # SWC8057 once we have drilled the hole in the firewall. I have attached the installation video for you.

In regards to your second question, no the brake-lite relay will not interfere or interconnect with the InvisiBrake or the custom wiring harness. The brake-lite system keeps your CR-V's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from your RV.

Also, you will not need to disconnect your brake controller to flat tow your CR-V. The 4-way connector on the extension # RM-164-7 from your RV to your vehicle will not have any brake controller function.
