will it fit a 98 K 1500 also I saw in one of the other questions that it was stated that it the hitch is obsolete why is the hitch obsolete

The Reese hitch 37042 that you referenced is discontinued and was a fit for the first generation Ford Escape.
We do offer hitches for your 1998 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup that can be seen on the link provided. You can use the Select Vehicle Style drop-down menu at the top of the page to select the truck version you have. If you are uncertain of the type of bumper you have you can refer to the linked article for illustration.
For instance, if you have a roll pan bumper you can install Curt 2-inch Class III hitch # 13942. If you have a standard or step bumper you can use Curt Class IV hitch # C14081. Two helpful articles on hitch installation are included for you.
