Question:

Does the Yakima 9ft security cable part #8007233 require the purchase of a separate lock core to be functional. It mentions that it is sold separately, but does not explain whether it is necessary.

In order for the Yakima Lock Cable part # Y07233 to be functional you will need a lock core installed in it. This product is sold without a lock core for people who have other Yakima racks and want to install the same lock core number as what there other racks have.

If you don't want to have to mess with picking out and installing a lock core you would instead want the part # Y07238 as this come with a lock core already.
