Needing a 6-Way to 7-Way Adapter for an RV with a 6-Way Pin to Connect a Race Car Trailer

Question:
I recently bought 1 1997 Holiday Rambler motor home. It has a 6 pin square plug that I need to adapt to a conventional 7 pin so I can install a brake controller and connect to my race car trailer. I do not see an adapter offered to help. It seems as though I have to take it from the 6 pin square to a 4 pin flat then to the 7 pin? Seems silly. Any advice?

I have a couple solutions for you, but the adapter you are looking for doesn't currently exist. The square 6-way style connectors are an older style that really aren't used anymore.
Your best bet is to replace the 6-way on your Holiday Rambler with a standard 7-way like # HM40975-11998. To install this, remove the wires from your current 6-way and splice the wires together by function. Use a circuit test like # PTW2993 to test the wires on your Rambler because it's likely the colors won't match up to the 7-way # HM40975-11998. I have attached a picture of the color code on this 7-way.
To install a brake controller, you will want our brake controller wiring kit # 5506 and most likely another 30 feet of 10 gauge wire like # 10-2-1. You will need that wiring kit and extra wire to run the wires for a brake controller from the 7-way connector to the cab of your Rambler for the brake controller. For a brake controller, I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 because it has a LCD display and it's one of our most popular brake controllers we currently offer. I have attached a helpful article about installing a brake controller from scratch.
If you don't want to remove your 6-way connector on your Holiday Rambler and would rather keep it as factory as possible, another option you have is to use the adapter # C58034 and cut off the end that plugs into the trailer and connect wires to a 7-way socket like # PK12-707E. It's important the wires are connected to the correct pins by function, not by color. I attached a wiring diagram for a 7-way trailer connector for you.
If you go this route, you will still need the additional 30 feet of wire # 10-2-1 and wiring kit # 5505.
