Question:
I have a 92 F150, 4.9, 2 wheel , Eod4 transmission. The trans fluid is cooled using the engine radiator. If I install a transmission oil cooler , do I use the lines that are now going to the existing radiator . Do I splice into these existing metal lines ? Or does this new oil cooler replace the cooling unit. I will install an oil cooler but Im confused about the installation. Will the fluid be cooled by the engine radiator as it is now and the new cooler OR just the new cooler ? Fluid seems to belch out of the front of the transmission when I tow my bass boat 15 miles or so.

Installing a supplemental transmission cooler will help maintain the temperature of your transmission fluid and helps ensure your transmission functions at its best. It would be used in addition to the radiator you have on your F-150. Per my contact at Derale you will need to splice into the metal lines that you currently have when you install a supplemental transmission cooler.
When choosing a transmission cooler, the most important thing you want to know is where it will fit so that it will provide the maximum cooling possible. If you can mount the cooler between your vehicle's grille and the AC condenser core you will gain the greatest efficiency.
For your 1992 Ford F-150 I recommend the Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13504. This is a Class lV plate-fin cooler that measures 11 inches wide x 12 inches tall x 7/8 inch deep. Per the tech tip we have you would need to use part # D13014 if you have 1/4 or 3/8 NPT trans-line fittings, or part # D13024 for 1/2 inch -20 partial thread fittings. I have attached the installation instructions for this cooler you can take a look at.
