Question:
Hello, I have a 2014 F-150 with hitch C14002. I am interested in towing my 2002 BMW motorcycle with the carrier UF48-979033. The bike weight is a bit over 425lbs.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier # UF48-979033 has the capacity for up to a 500-lb motorcycle so it can handle your 425-lbs BMW with some room to spare. Safety margin is always a good thing. Your Curt hitch # C14002 has a very substantial 1000-lb tongue weight (TW) rating so it too provides a healthy safety margin for carrying the 425-lb BMW plus the 50-lb carrier. I suggest a hitch lock # e98880 to secure the carrier to your truck.
In terms of stabilizing the carrier and bike I suggest adding a set or two of ratcheting straps like # EM34416 from Erickson. These can be used to secure the bike to the carrier's built-in tie-down points and also to help support the carrier itself to reduce motion while you're underway.
