Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at etrailer.com.

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

  • Parts Needed to Add a 5-3/8" Keel Roller to a Boat Trailer
Hey Dave, good to hear from you again! To replace your 5-3/8" wide keel roller, shaft, pal nuts, and bracket you'll need the following: - Yates Keel Roller # YR5244-105EC - Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts # CE10722A - CE Smith Adjustable Mounting Brackets # CE32004G The adjustable bracket can be used with any of the keel roller sizes since it's 2 individual brackets as opposed to a "boxed" style with a limited width. Mounting hardware isn't included (you'll need to pick it up at your local...

  • Can Grease Be Applied to Roller Shaft for Boat Trailer
Thanks for reaching out again, Dave. You can definitely add grease to the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers # CE10722A but it isn't necessary. If you were to apply grease to it you would want to use marine grease like part # L74FR. Just be sure you don't get grease where the pal nuts install otherwise they might not install as snug as they need to.

  • Do The 5" Yates Keel Rollers Have Bushings Or Sleeves?
The Yates V Keel Roller # YR5213-5 does not have any bushings or sleeves. To get the bushings you would need the wider 5-3/8" Keel Roller # YR5244-105EC. We do have the PVC Keel Roller # CE29516 that is more durable than a rubber roller and will not mark up your keel. I recommend getting a new Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts # CE10722A if yours is showing signs of corrosion or wear.

  • Is there a 6 Inch Long Keel Roller for a 1971 Boat Trailer
The best option is to use # YR5244-105EC which is 5-1/2 inches long so it will only be off by 1/4 inch on each side on a bracket with a 6 inch span. If you need a compatible shaft and pal nuts use # CE10722A. It has the 5/8 inch diameter shaft required for the roller.

  • Parts Needed To Add 12" Self Centering Keel Roller On Boat Trailer
You could use the CE Smith Keel Roller for Boat Trailers - Self Centering - PVC - 12" - 5/8" Shaft - Amber but you would need to have new brackets welded on to your 2015 EZ loader boat trailer, or you could drill new holes so you can bolt on the CE Smith Universal-Fit Split Panel Brackets for Boat Trailers # CE10500G. This mounting slots on this bracket should only be roughly 11" apart so you will not be able to reuse your existing holes. You would also need a new, longer roller shaft #...

  • Will CE Smith Keel Roller Assembly Rotate When Loading and Unloading Boats
Thanks for reaching out, Dave! The roller on the CE Smith Keel Roller Assembly for 3" Wide Trailer Tongues # CE32003G is not designed to wobble, and if you get the bracket tight enough it should be pretty stationary. If you're asking about the roller spinning on the shaft when loading and unloading then yes, it should do that. As far as just the roller, we don't have this specific roller, but we have the Amber Color # CE29516 that you can pair with the Roller Shaft and Pal Nuts # CE10722A...

  • Keel Rollers for a 1991 Caulkins Boat Trailer that Will Not Corrode from the Inside
A keel roller such as # YR5213-5 would work well for you since it does not have a metal sleeve inside. For the best corrosion resistance you would use stainless steel shafts to hold the rollers to their brackets. That can get expensive. We currently offer a zinc-plated steel shaft for this roller, # CE10722A, which is going to be in between regular steel and stainless as far as corrosion resistance. We also have roller # YR5244-105EC which uses nylon bushings instead of a steel sleeve....

  • Trailer Roller Bunks and Keel Roller Recommendations for a River Raft
It sounds like you are looking for roller bunks such as # DL21741. These are 5 foot long sections (2 in a package) and are the longest we have available. Each section has 12 sets of rollers. They can be mounted directly to a wooden bunk or to the frame by using bracket kit # DL21742. If you are looking for a keel roller we have a 5-1/2 inch model # YR5244-105EC but no 6 inch. The next size up is 8 inches. With it you can use shaft # CE10722A with brackets # CE32004G or # CE10301G.

  • Recommended Roller Bunk Assembly for 3 Wide Trailer Frame
Yes, the mounting holes on a roller bunk assembly bracket would need to be spaced apart farther than 3" in order to fit a 3" wide frame. Instead of using the CE Smith Spool Roller Assembly part # CE10451G, I recommend using a combination of the brackets part # MBSPB, roller part # YR510Y-5, shaft/nuts part # CE10722A, and u-bolts part # CE15252A. Roller assemblies can be installed on trailers in a variety of different ways but in order to attach them directly atop a 3" wide frame rail like...

Yes, the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts part # CE10722A is a fit for the Yates Keel Roller part # YR5244-105EC. If you are looking to replace the roller shaft on your existing Yates roller you would need to measure from the end of each white bushing. I have attached a list of all our roller shafts for you as well.

The Yates Ribbed Wobble Roller 4-3/8" Diameter - 5/8" Shaft does not require a bushing, it's designed to slip over a roller shaft and secure with pal nuts like the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers part # CE10722A.
