Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed within the jack storage compartment of your vehicle's rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt T Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a Four Pull Flat Trailer Connector. This product fits certain years and models of the Dodge Caravan, Grand Caravan, Durango, Plymouth Voyager, Grand Voyager and Chrysler Town and Country. To ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle, you can use the vehicle fit guide at etrailer.com. This is going to provide a four way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with five pull, six pull and seven pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately.
And it comes with the dust cap for the four way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points when your plug's not being used.The black box right here is the included tail light converter. This is going to ensure that your vehicles wiring matches that of your trailer's. It's constructed using surface mount technology for consistent, reliable performance. What that does is, it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat.
Also ensures superior operation, even in rough road conditions.Now this unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. You don't have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires. Just locate the connection points behind your tail lights and plug in your connectors. One set goes to the passenger side, the other set goes to the driver side. It is a custom fit wiring harness, and they're going to snap lock together for a nice tight secure fit. The unit does come with detailed installation instructions to help walk you through that process step by step. Once you have those connected, you'll need to mount your converter box to a nice clean out of the way location and you can do that using the double sided adhesive tape provided with the kit. And then can secure the excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties.Once your install's complete, the four way connectors are going to be stowed within the jack storage compartment of your vehicle's rear cargo area. You've got plenty of wiring here to extend it out the back of the vehicle when you're ready to use it.
And then you can roll it up, tuck it away when you don't need to use it. It is recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease in all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pull connector itself. That grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the terminals. It is sold separately and available at etrailer.com. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at three amps per circuit and for the tail lights we're looking at five amps per circuit. Converter is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.This hitch was installed on a 1999 Dodge Durango. The quality of the Curt hitch is excellent. I'm very happy with it. I did have trouble with one of the four mounting bolts--left rear-most--due to the existence of a large body mount bolt directly above it. I wish that the rearmost bolts had been about 3/8" to 1/2" shorter than they are. It would have made that part of the install much easier. As is I was barely able to get it in there with way too much time involved. I would have cut that bolt down except that I didn't have a 1/2-13 die on hand to clean it up after cutting. The other three mounting bolts were quick and direct.
I was also happy with the quality of the Curt electrical harness that I ordered with this hitch. However, the install on the electrical was quite tedious, time consuming, and painful/bloody. This was mostly the fault of the Durango design and that my hands were too big for the space I had to get into. However the cable for the four wire connector to the trailer is too short and won't reach where it needs to go. I will have to splice in a long section to get down to the hitch. Fortunately the trailer cable is long enough to reach up to the connection with the rear lift gate open so that I could check out function. Everything works.
Overall very nice quality. The only drawback was that the install was not as easy as advertised. But it's done and it works. Thanks.
This was as simple as plug & play gets. There is plenty of wire available to go to the right side lights. This was actually a replacement. The first unit (different brand) that burned out. I had this plugged in and working in 10 minutes.

As always shipping and price are fast and great. The product did not last a full year. This was the second unit I purchased and now I am on my third. The first two burned out. Unit one actually melted to the point it filled my Durango with a horrible plasticrubber smell. Second unit the brake light circuit burned out after about 10 months. I mount the units up high under the body where they receive very little water from rain
Truthfully. This product is just absolutely brilliant an with completely simple, easy installation on my fathers 2000-01 Dodge Durango. Everything hooks right up. Plug an go. I just took the vents out that are behind the tailights an put the converter box, plugs an wiring in that little space behind the vents. Haven’t had this long and only used once so far but everything/all lights work as they should. Honestly satisfied with this an easy to do. Only thing now is to see if the product is long lasting. Thank you Etrailer!
My Durango didn’t have wiring for towing. This harness was very easy to install and tucked up under the bumper well. No unsightly wiring hanging or worries of it coming loose or snagging.

fits right in and works like a charm. you may have to get creative on where you want to route the wires but that is a personal choice. good luck.
