Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Brophy Rigid Mount Spare Tire Carrier for four inch or 4 1/2 inch RV or mini-motorhome bumpers. Now, this rigid mount spare tire carrier allow you to carry your spare tire on your RV or your mini-motorhome bumper. It is designed to mount right here on bumpers that are measuring four inches or 4 1/2 inches square, and it is designed to hold up wheels up to 17 1/2 inch diameter size. You can see, I'm gonna zoom in here, just so you can see, this is where your spare tire will mount to. Once you mount your spare tire, these bolts will come through and you'll tighten the nuts down the hole within the place, this bracket on the bottom here will hold it, and what's nice is this long bolt on the bottom actually has a hole drilled through it, so you could actually put a padlock through there once you install your spare tire.
For security, you can lock it into place. Now, the padlock is not included, you would have to purchase that separately. This is a nice black powder coat finish on the part, helps resist corrosion. It is made in the USA. Few dimensions I wanna give you on this, we're gonna do the overall height, which will be measured from the bottom to the very top here.
So if I get our tape measure, go ahead and pull our tape measure out, and from the bottom to the top, you can see it's gonna measure right at 17 3/4 inches tall. The overall depth, I'm gonna measure right up here where it'll go up against the bumper to the bracket right out here where the spare tire will attach. If we measure from the back to the very depth of it, it's gonna be right at seven inches deep. But that should do it for the review on this Brophy Rigid Mount Spare Tire Carrier for the four inch or 4 1/2 inch RV or mini-motorhome bumpers..
This is my 2nd unit - I bent the first dragging my bumper on a hill. Doh. It is solid. Instructions are confusing as the drawing shows the two bolts going through two stud bolt holes on the wheel. This would make hang offset, not centered. The etrailer product video shows only the top bolt through the stud bolt hole/wheel and the 2nd bolt going on the clamp spanning the hole. If you look at other customer pictures, it is clear the instructions are confusing people and some have mounted it off centered. I did it how the video does it and it worked for years just fine until my dumb hill driving.
The Rigid Mount Spare Tire bumper mount seems to be well built. But....it did not fit my spare that goes on my little 2025 Coachman Freedom Express 19SE. Tire = 5 Lug, ST205/75R14 standard rim tire. The "C" channel will not fit the rim flush for the 2 mounting bolts. The C channel hits the rim no matter which way the tire is facing, preventing a flush rim mount. It won't snug/flush up so I will have to figure out some modifications to make this work as some others have had to do. Btw, the 5 lug rim mounts offset as you can see in the photo. The 5 lug rim will not mount in the center of the "C" bracket.
Works as described. Sturdy piece of metal. Put a 16x6wheel on it and doesn’t move , very sturdy. I tried other on Amazon, this is the one you want for a close mount , sturdy installation.
We added the spare tire mount to our motorhome and have travelled the East Coast without any issues. We given the product a thumbs up.

This product is still working as well as it did day one! Having the mount for a spare allows us to travel and feel confident that we can handle a tire emergency.
Mount worked good. Had to add some additional bracing to RV bumper for the weight of a spare tire. The 4 inch square bumper on my class c motorhome is made of thin metal with not much holding it on to frame of RV. Just need to be creative!!

I always love a creative solution to a problem! What did you do to create more bracing, Stephen?
The picture of the item did not do it justice. The tire mount is made of solid material and definitely worth the price paid. The installation appears to be easy, eventhough I am mounting the item on a motorcycle pull-behind trailer, which has a smaller square tube, but I have a good work around.
Very strong and well built. I have an 8 lug spare tire and dually rim on it.
Purchased this carrier in hopes that it would mount up a spare tire for my 2021 Thor 24f motorhome on the rear bumper. I was not able to use all of the parts that came with it, the metal bracket shaped like a D was not needed. The offset on these wheels would not allow it’s use, the wheels are too deep.
So I was able to mount the tire to the main bracket without the D bracket utilizing three holes in the bracket and the wheel with the deep dish portion of the wheel facing outside to the rear. It is really on there with three bolts! Mounted the main bracket over the bumper where it attaches to the frame thinking that this would be the strongest point. I am quite satisfied with the way it turned out, very stable and it looks good.
Thanks eTrailer!
It was very easy to install the spare tire mount. I put a dually wheel and tire to the spare tire mount. The one think I did differently was used the three bolts to hold the tire and wheel. Will check it periodically to see if it needs to be tightened.
Delivery was quick and all were of good quality.
Very sturdy and good fit.
Easy to mount and I receive the spare tire Saturday
Quick and easy purchase.

Just perfect.
etrailer packaging and shipping was excellent The tire carrier was well constructed and nicely finished. It was used to replace the cheap tire carrier that came with my Keystone RV trailer that failed on bumpy roads. I used the "U" bolts from the old tire carrier because they fit the 4" bumper better than the 4 to 4 1/2" bolts with the kit. I used the wheel lugs and nuts from old carrier because they were designed for wheels rather than being simply carriage bolts with regular nuts/washers. There was nothing wrong with the parts I didn't use, the old carrier just had some parts that were more specific to my trailer that I could reuse.

The tire carrier is excellent. I am confident that it will not break like the OE piece that came with the trailer. We have to travel some marginally maintained gravel roads in Nebraska and Wyoming to get to the undeveloped camping areas and the spare tire has to be will supported to not break the carrier.
Easy install. Hardest part was mounting the spare tire.
Mount is on and very sturdy. However, the mounting instructions/drawings were very hard to decipher.I had to modify the mounting by purchasing additional bolts and washers, as those provided were insufficient to mount the wheel without movement.
As usual, the quality of the product is high. The stout mounting surfaces and hardware insure that the spare tire won't fatigue (bend) the unit. I like that the spare tire can be locked-on with a popular small padlock (not included) and the Carrier is actually 'overbuilt' to perform its duty forever!

Even in my corrosive coastal atmosphere, there has been no weakness in this unit in the year-plus that Ive used it. No regrets!

Quality still there, a year-plus later. Handles the job, even here in my corrosive coastal weather.
This unit it may be fine for many applications. It seems well built. But, as it turned out, it was NOT the best for MY PARTICULAR needs. I have a Jayco motorhome with a Ford E-450 chassis that uses 16 inch, six lug, dually wheels. These wheels just don't fit very well. I found that the wheel hangs on the top bolt just fine. But no matter how tight I tightened everything down, the wheel still wanted to shift. The second bolt (center) with the silver tie down could not hold the tire in place as solidly as it ought. The tire wanted to shift left and right (like a pendulum on a clock). Therefore, I drilled a hole at the bottom of the upright (below the center bolt) and put another bolt through that -- so that it would go through a bottom lug hole of the dually wheel to help keep the wheel from swinging. Perhaps this unit would be better for a smaller lighter wheel -- or one with a different offset shape or lug pattern?
By the way, getting those 1/2 inch push nuts on was difficult for me.

Thank you for your review. The Brophy spare tire carrier that was purchased is not designed for heavy motor home tires. It is more for lighter weight trailer tires. I recommend to get something designed for the weight of motor home tires like part # e98ZR. This will go into your motorhomes hitch and can be used with any bolt pattern. I cannot recommend to use the bumper style carriers with such a heavy tire.
I bought two of theses because I carry two spares. These are 100% better than the week bracket that came on my fifthwheel. It was obviously made for a lighter tire. Several times I had to beat the cross piece back flat as the tire was escaping. These are great

Just as hoped for. No problem
Had concerns that this wouldn’t work on a deep dually wheel, as that’s not clearly identified in the product description, but etrailer said it would work so ordered it. The instructions, though weak (as is typical with so many product instructions), showed that you don’t use one of the main parts on dually wheels, and it ultimately worked. However, had to drill a hole in the brace piece to make it fit due to the offset mounting needed on dually wheels. So it works but needs some improvement in description and assembly part.

The standoff tab on the Brophy Rigid Mount Spare Tire Carrier part # BR56VR is about 5 so as long as the width of the tire does not exceed 10 inches - 0 offset wheel - you should be able to mount the wheel either way. If the width of the tire exceeds 10 inches then you may still be able to use the carrier if the wheel has an offset. The sum of the tire width plus offset would have to be less than 5 inches.
Well built, very sturdy
Great product. Well built.
Just want we needed!
Our factory installed spare carrier came apart at a welded seam and we almost lost the spare on the highway.
This new unit has much heavier material and looks much more sturdy. The weak links are the U-bolt attachment system and the cheesy factory bumper. We'll be watching those things like a hawk!

Everything still seems solid at one year.
I have a 6 lug nut spare tire (16 inch wheel). I emailed the manufacturer to see if it was supported. Their response: It fits a 6 x 5 1/2" wheel, only that size in 6 Bolt pattern.
It worked well for me.

Gosh darn hill! That wasn't very nice of it. Also, thanks for pointing out the muddiness with the instructions. I'll pass it on to the manufacturer for you. Safe travels out there, Christopher!
