Disc Brakes
An increasing number of trailer owners are switching over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, as opposed to the many moving parts you find with drum brakes. This means that with disc brakes there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to repair or replace, thus reducing the cost of maintenance.
Performance increases as well. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking even at highway speeds, unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a much shorter stopping distance than drum brakes.
Titan's complete disc brake kit makes the conversion easy. Designed for tandem-axle trailers, this kit includes not only the disc brake assemblies themselves - along with all the necessary lines, fittings and mounting hardware - it also contains the Model 60 Leverlock actuator. This hydraulic brake actuator has a higher psi rating for disc brake applications and includes an electric reverse lockout so that you can back up without activating your trailer's brakes. To use the lockout feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round or 7-pole wiring harness.
Hydraulic Line Kit
Note: If you intend to run brake lines along the axles of your trailer to install disc brakes - as is often done for boat trailers - you will need 2 additional hoses (T4890700 - sold separately) and 2 extra hose clips (T0776400 - sold separately) with brackets (T0776300 - sold separately) to complete the installation.
Great kit, awesome quick delivery. Would be good to include axle nut cotter keys to lock the nut with in the kit. Everything else included except brake fluid. Be sure to bench bleed the master cylinder on the surge brake before bleeding the brakes. Also had to torque the bolt holding the brass swivel block to the caliper to 40 ft lbs to make it seal. Have them installed, haven't pulled the trailer yet. Looks like a great product
Order was shipped right away and received in less than a week. Complete set. Everything you need except wheel bearing grease and brake fluid. Swapping out the old drums and installing the discs was pretty straight foward. All bearings and hardware included with bearing races pre-installed. I did purchase separately 16 grade 8 mounting bolts rather than re-use mine. Instal took me about 8 hours of labor.
I did strugle with the steel brake line instalation. While directions seem simple, it doesn't quite work out that way. Steel tubing needs to be mounted on the trailer frame. In order to transition from the frame to the axel, you need some type of rubber connection since the axel is moving and the frame is not. Tech support confirmed, I need to mount all steel lines to the frame. So after running the 19' line to the frame rail just past my rear axle, the 30" section is about 36" too short to reach the frame rail in front of my front axle. End result, I had to re-use a 48" piece of tubing that I just removed. All in all, I made it work. Hind sight, I would have ordered with the Kodiak flex line kit for $100. Would have made installation a whole lot easier for sure. Installation of brake lines took me about 5 hours with boat on the trailer.
Titan actuator and bleeding.
First off, directions for bleeding actuator with a 2x4 are rediculous. I quickly found out this is not going to work. Requires a lot of pressure to force closed. What they don't tell you is how difficult it is to pull the actuator back into place. I have a suction device that I use to remove engine oil from the dip stick tube. I simply attached a 1/4" ID clear plastic hose to the bleed valve, gave it a few pumps, cracked the bleed valve and BINGO. Perfect suction. Worked like a dream. Just be sure to be standing at the actuator reseviour to keep it full of fluid. Level drops quickly using this method. I bled each caliper 3 times over 3 day period. I also found the Titan actuator a little difficult to connect to 2" hitch ball. I had to pull forward and backwards a bit to both couple and uncouple hitch in order to lock into place and unlock. Perhaps it will get easier as I get used to it, but is was a little frustrating in comparision to my old actuator.
Road Test.
I pulled forward and applied brakes in short bursts to get the caliper cylinders to move all the way out to make contact with pads and rotor. After about 3 brake applications, you need to check actuator fluid level. I did this about a dozen times, refilling reseviour 3 times. Also, DO NOT over fill reseviour once you have everything final adjusted. Application pressure will force out fluid thru fill cap. Directions say fill to 3/4 full. Good advice.
Overall I am very pleased with both eTrailer and the Titan product.
Awsome! 1985 dual axle boat trailer upgrade. Everything fit and works perfectly. Customer service responded immediately with sending missing solenoid protector cover. Highly recommend kit. Brakes work great!
All 6 boxes of my shipment arrived with no damage. All parts were wrapped and packaged well inside the box. Have not installed kit yet but all the parts appear to be good quality.
The staff was very helpful with all of my questions and followed up when with me when they didn't know the answer to one of my questions about the rotor. I'll share that question and answer here.
Two of the 4 rotors had a channel ground out of the edge. See Picture. Marti didn't know the answer but contacted her tech department and they informed us that this is how Titan will balance the rotor at the factor.
I added a second axle on a boat trailer and upgraded brakes to disc with this kit. I launched about 10-15 times, half in brackish half in fresh water, and have put about 1650 miles on the trailer in the past year. I typically spray the wheels down after the 100 mile trip home from brackish water, but probably didn't a few times. I've had no issues with the brakes and they stop the trailer very well (5000lb trailer with an 4000lb tow vehicle ('95 Tacoma)). A few observations: I would not recommend the installation without a vacuum brake bleeder - it's difficult to manually pump the coupler and bleed and would take a long time (I started that way before pulling out my vacuum bleeder). Also, make sure to connect the reverse light lead; I didn't before my first test drive and was unable to back up my relatively flat gravel driveway in 4WD since the slight incline compressed the coupler and applied the brakes. Lastly, sometimes when backing the empty trailer at the boat ramp, the wheels lock. I believe this is since the solenoid that releases the pressure goes through a rather small orifice and it takes a while to bleed off the pressure. This has only been a slight annoyance and not real problem. Overall, a very good product at a great price.
The packages came pretty quick. My trailer was originally equipped with disc brakes however they were not maintained by the previous owner and everything except the main part of the frame was rusted completely. I’m glad the main frame is aluminum otherwise I’d have to buy a new trailer. I was very happy with the shipping time from when my order was placed to when it was shipped. UPS didn’t really take care of the packages and it looked like they were tossed around but luckily no major damage occurred. Everything I ordered were in the 3 packages I received. I just replaced the trailer tongue a couple days ago and upon prepping the axels for the brake system that arrived I noticed the axels were rusted beyond repair to the point I can’t even drop the boat in the river to install evertything because I fear one good pot hole or bump and the axels will separate. I’m going to pick the new axels this weekend and install them along with the new brake system. Everything looks fantastic so far and I cannot wait to get this done so I can take my boat out again. I would love to submit before and after pictures once the brakes and new actuator have been installed

The actuator is working great, the brakes are working great and the rotors are working great. Have not had one issue since the installation.
Installed on trailer that was previously drum brakes. Had no significant problems with installing new four wheel Titan Disc Brakes. All parts were in the kit and instructions were clear. They function great and have had no problems.

I have now had the boat 24 foot on three hundred-plus mile trips and several to near by reservoir. Brakes have performed perfectly. Improvement over drum brakes is significant. Would not hesitate to orderuse Titan product from etrailer again. Thanks for following up.
Product (all items) arrived exactly as described. Was a replacement for old drum brakes on a boat trailer (1997 EZ-Loader). Parts fit perfectly. Self installed. If you going to install yourself, do yourself a favor and get a brake line bleeding tool.
I've pulled the boat/trailer for over a year now and the performance of the brakes are great (I live in an area with lots of hills and some of them are steep - 10% grade and more).
I've driven/towed this boat/trailer for well over 1,000 miles. Would definitely recommend purchasing these if you need to do a complete overhaul of your trailer braking system or just want to replace those annoying and poorly performing drum brakes.
Oh, and the electric reverse lockout has performed well (as long as you don't already have hydraulic compression engaged before you get into reverse gear).
First off, the customer service was top-notch. Questions that I had were answered quickly and smartly. I did have issues that I’ll get into, but responses could not have been more helpful. Shipping was fast, and given that the total order was about 150lbs. the free shipping was a real treat since the product was about the same price as other vendors that charged for shipping. Everything arrived in good condition with proper packaging.
I ordered the disk brake set with lines and actuator. I also bought 4 springs. Now for the dislikes:
No instructions with anything. Nothing. The “Instructions” button on the website was empty too. I was on my own. Not that it was super complicated, but I had to redo a couple of things when I realized I had done them out of order or improperly. Instructions would have saved me this time and aggravation. Google was my friend.
The bolts that connect the brake mounting flange to the axle flange were not included, and this was not noted on the web page. Not a great expense, but my work for the day was done when I realized that the hardware was not included with the kit and my shop was closed. Bolts to mount the actuator to the trailer were not included either. Again, not a great expense, but at least TELL ME that I’ll need to have them on hand.
The steel brake lines were WAY too long for my double axle trailer. Since I did not have a flare tool for cutting and reflaring, I had to bend the lines into this Dr. Seusse looking rig to get every thing to fit, and even then the mounting brackets were useless since it was nearly impossible to get everything to fit right and still have the bracket come out at the correct angle to mount to the axle/trailer.
There was also an issue with the bearings. In one of the hub kits I got two inners and no outer bearing. That’s not etrailer’s fault though. I had to get one from my shop, and etrailers put one in the mail to me immediately.
All in all though, I would buy from etrailer again and I would recommend them.
The brakes work great on my 23' boat double axle trailer. When traveling and my tow/haul on I rarely use the truck brakes except right at the stop sign or light. Prior to installing the brakes, it was eating up my truck brakes.
Very simple to install...great product.
No rust on any of the items installed as of today after a year of use, I do park it in a shop and do not back it in the water which helps also.
I also purchased a set to go on a single axle trailer with the same results GREAT!! I would give 5 Stars but the tubing anchors are a little on the cheap side. This product is more like 4 1/2 stars
eTrailer, outstanding service and super fast shipping!! I can't believe I recieved over 100lb worth of boxes free!
Now to the actual kit: product as advertised. Complete kit to start new or convert from drum. I have never installed brakes myself, so this was the first time. No directions provided with the boxes except for some coded text for the accentutor. So don't expect to have step by step install guide. (Unless you actually read the email eTrailer sends you which I didn't do until I was about to write the review) The Titan site sucks too and don't hope for directions there either. When you install the calipers, 2 of them will have the bleed valves at the bottom so be sure to swap them up. I had a hard time bleeding the brakes following the Titan directions which are to use the 2x4 method. Luckely my buddy Will showed up and showed me that the cover on the accentutor can be removed. Once you do that you can just pump them using the brake away lever. Other than that, I am super happy with the product and eTrailer has new loyal customer.
Order was shipped and I received it quickly. The amount of tubing that came with the kit was not quite enough. I had to get some extra brake line from the local parts store and cut/flare it to work. It was not difficult running the tubing however a complete flex line kit would have been much quicker and easier. This kit would not clear my 13" wheels and had to go with 14's. When I was bolting the wheels on I accidentally messed up the threads on one of the wheel studs. Called etrailer, titan, etc. and nobody had replacement wheel studs for it. I finally found the correct wheel studs. They are made by UFP and the part # is 32498.
5 weeks later and the project is finished. Would I still buy from Etrailer? Yes. Was it easy? No. Salesman assured me that the actuator would work for my trailer so I ordered. After receiving product...good shipping.. determined that the actuator was too small after my specifically asking if it was the right part. Hassled with return and ordered the right part. Finally got this all straightened out. New actuator came with broken cap...no problem they sent me a new one once the had one in stock a month later. there are no instructions that come with these parts so you are on your own as far as the install is concerned. The only issue with this was the plates that the calipers mount to can go on 2 ways with only a small difference either way so it took a couple of tries to get this right but other than that it all worked out in the end but would have saved me a great deal of time and hassle had they answered my questions right when I first ordered.
Folks at etrailer, I just got a chance to install this kit. So far it has proven to be very good. All went well except for lack of basic instructions. Caliper mount plate embossed.
Excellent brakes, very fast shipping even to Alaska, all parts necessary were included. Will highly recommend etrailer. The only thing needed is a set of instructions but the kit is pretty easy in any case.
I received the disk brake kit and started to install it, it is well designed and the quality is top notch. I hope to finish up tomorrow the only thing left is the brake lines and the bleeding. It has been an easy install. i would recomend to anyone want to go from drums to disk. The price was also great.
This is the second trailer I put these on and I'm very pleased with the brakes. I recommend them to my friends. Thanks for checking a year later.
I am a Marine Mechanic in the Pacific Northwest and these kits get everything thrown at em.100% humidity "never quits raining". Tequila shots got lime but no salt.Thats ok just lick the fender on your car and guaranteed to harden your arteries.
I use these kits mainly on salt water trailers and they are awesome if you take the time to wash the trailer after exposed .
Just my 2 cents
This company is great! Kept me informed from the minute I ordered. Was normal shipping time quoted, then they told me that due to manufacturer issue they wouldn't be able to deliver till middle of January! My package came three days later and was also part of their free shipping program for Christmas! Great company can't say enough about them!
Poor installation instructions
Amazing fast delivery and super easy installation. Thanks So Much!
Great kit with everything we needed and then some. Bolts right up to the trailer
I do not recommend purchasing this kit!! First issue was the packaging the parts came in. The heavy calipers and rotors were packed in a box, loose, with the bearings and seal. Bearings and seal were just in a plastic bag. No packing material to keep the heavier parts from damaging them. One of the seals was damaged bad enough that I had to purchase another one locally and install. Second issue was one of the calipers had a casting of "China" in large letters. Only one of the four calipers had this casting. They proudly advertise "Made in America" on the website. Third issue was the fact that several parts were missing in the shipment: The bleeder valves, dust covers for bleeder ports, banjo bolt and block assembly adapter and bolts to mount caliper to adapter plate were all missing. So during shipping, the two ports on all of the calipers, were open to atmosphere, inviting contamination. The pictures on the website clearly show yellow plugs installed in one port and the bleeder valve with cover installed in the other. The banjo bolt assembly is an odd, non automotive size and was impossible to purchase locally. I immediately started trying to call etrailer customer support line. After several days of sitting on hold, each time for about an hour, I finally got through. The agents response was "I will have to contact the manufacturer and get back to you". I asked if they had these parts on the shelf. The response was no, we do not. So if I need spare parts in the future, they will not be able to provide them. I asked how long that would be and they responded with: "hopefully before the end of the day". Two days later I got an email saying simply that " I have contacted the manufacture and I am waiting for them to respond". Another 3 days pass and I finally get another email stating that the parts will be shipped with a delivery date that ended up being 9 days after the initial contact with etrailer agent. So overall, it took a little over 3 weeks from the date of the order to finally get all the parts I purchased. There were no apologies from the agent of any kind, an offer to discount the order or even a credit toward additional purchases. This is a very long ways from "71 Years of Great Customer Support".
Worked well as expected. Videos were helpful.
great kit. semi easy to install. working great.

I installed this kit in Nov of 2017 and have put about 3600 miles on it with no problems. Passed VA trailer inspect last may.
