This works on the Polestar 2. If you don't want to spend $700-800 for the Polestar 2 hitch, this one bolts right on. You just have to trim a little of the bottom of the bumper.
I was grateful for the installation video that was an exact example of my 2023 Volvo XC40. I am very mechanically inclined/capable and always do my own vehicle repairs, but I’m terrified to work on body panels as EVERY time I have, I break body clips and end up with a rattle. Or just knowing that I’ve got a piece that’s not fully mounted because of a broken body clip drives me crazy. So I was very nervous. With that, it took me two hours exactly for the install with me being very careful. I believe most anyone can do this install following the video. I ended up breaking one body clip on the (the second one) of the wheel arch. (Actually, it was the same one the installer breaks in the installation video!) I was able to super-glue the clip back together. I’ve attached pics of this area so it will help you understand how to pry it. Be careful, take your time. The other issues I encountered is you need a shallow torx bit to fit between the tire and fender well, and you really need a second person to help with the re-installation of the bodywork, I didn’t have anyone to assist and it definitely made the process more of a struggle. Still, it’s doable alone, but more of a struggle. The hitch itself is great, like several others have mentioned, lot’s of chipping paint and bare spots, usually where the weight of the item rips through the cardboard box.

Primarily got this as a mount for my bike rack. The install was tricky but manageable and the instructions were fantastic and I tried to follow them to a tee. One year in and the hitch has been fantastic, hardly noticeable without the bike rack. Very happy with it, etrailer is the best!

Hello. I just installed a trailer hitch and had a couple of things to share about the installation experience. We had a 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge that I installed a Draw-Tite hitch on to use with bike racks and such. That car was unfortunately totaled in June. We liked the car and the hitch so much we bought a 2023 version of the same car and I then ordered another hitch from you for it. (I'm not sure how - after not finding it online I reached out to customer service and was told they were on backorder until October or November, but was later able to find the listing for it and order it.)
There were a couple of things different in the installation this time around. The minor one is from Step 1B of the instructions. It says to use an 8mm socket to use four bolts from the bottom edge of the fascia, but on the 2023 car the bolts are Torx.
The lower fascia is also different on the 2023. On our 2021, it looked like the one illustrated in the instructions - a solid panel, and the piece I cut out of it was a square. Or at least as close as I could get to a square. :-) On the 2023, there was already an open area and I had to cut much less of it. I've attached pictures that hopefully help tell that story.

I didn't do the install myself, but the mechanic who did had no issues. Seems like a quality hitch, and it's pretty discrete looking under the rear bumper. Looks very integrated and not like an added on third party kind of accessory. Has worked well with a four-bike Thule rack.

Fantastic fit, easy to install. I followed the video on installation on a Volvo XC40. The only thing that I would add is that there were several bolts/screws on the bottom of the bumper facade that weren't clearly described in the video. You'll need an 8mm socket and a T-27 Torx bit to get it off. Otherwise, exactly as in the video and very easy. Took my about 70-80 minutes to install.

Super fast delivery, good quality, and a tremendously helpful DIY installation video. Minus one star for the product arriving with a few spots of chipped paint which required some touch-up paint.
Took my time. All said, about 2-2.5 hours. Using a dremel tool to cut the 3.5 Sq out made a huge difference than using some type of knife. Much more accurate. Removing the sensors was easy, getting fascia to fit back in, not so much.
Everything was perfect. It went smoothly
I called, started off with a pleasant (clear) voice. The young lady was really knowledgeable and very courteous. Look up what I needed and bingo, put in the order. Three/four days later I received. This was my first experience with etrailer, because of Koren, will not be the last.

Great...i can be confindent with this company
Quality hitch but it requires a lot of disassembly of the rear body molding and underlying bumper, sensors and wiring to install.
Also makes an discomforting clanking sound (almost like something is loose) when accelerating & decelerating the vehicle. I double checked everything and best guess is the receiver and the ball mount are not made to tight enough tolerances. They slide together but still has lots of "play" between them.
The hitch is really well made, very sturdy and a perfect fit for my 2023 Volvo XC40.
The install took me about 2.5 hours working alone mainly because the XC40 no longer looks like what is shown in the video. The late year 2023 models have many sensors attached to the bumper cover - one for straight back, two on each side and the foot sensor to raise the tailgate hands free. Additionally, there are two light bulbs. The large harness connector to separate the entire bumper cover from the body is no longer there. After spending at least an hour trying to disconnect the wiring from above, I realized that most of the connectors are accessible from underneath. There’s still a big problem with separating the wires from the bumper cover because Volvo now uses shark teeth retainers with zip ties to fasten the wire harnesses to the bumper cover. Don’t know why they did that, but I had to pry off 4 or 5 of those devils and it was quite difficult.
Once the bumper cover was off, the hitch went on in about 15 minutes. Very easy and straightforward. After that, I cut the 3.5 inch clearance notch with a sharp utility knife.
Then, it was time to reconnect the wiring harnesses. It went back together faster than it came apart, but those shark teeth retainers were stinkers to get back on in a small space. All of the connectors were sized differently so you can’t make a mistake with the wiring.
Once the wires were reconnected, the bumper cover reinstalled in about 15-20 minutes (mainly because it got dark on me). The hitch looks great.
The one thing that I noticed is that the paint job seems to be substandard- it easily flaked away from the metal in several places. It’ll never be a problem because the hitch metal is very thick and it’ll never lose its integrity.
Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase from etrailer as with everything else I purchased over the years.
I had this installed by a professional mechanic so I cant comment on the ease of installation on my Volvo XC40 but it looks great. My only minor complaint is probably more due to the car design but removing the locking clevis pin from the hitch pin is difficult because the hitch pin has only a small rotation capability because it hits the safety chain welded loops.
Installation was simple thanks to the custom video for my exact model car. The hitch looks great - at least as good as a factory install.
I'm removing one star because there were some spots where the factory paint had chipped. They are impossible to see after I reinstalled the bumper. I wanted to make sure I won't have issues with rust, so I spot-painted with Rust-Oleum. Customer service was great and offered advice and free product to remedy the issue.

I got this as it was flush mount and did not see a need to have a hidden hitch and track parts. Video was good and unit installed well. I have a few tips to speed this along. The ONLY tricky part is the bumper wiring. To simplify this, the bumper has 6 park sensors, camera, and a motion sensor. Step one should be to remove quarter panel park sensors, most outer park sensors on bumpers, and untwist bulb in lower light assembly. This can be done by hand prior to starting bumper removal and reduce chance of any wiring damage. I ended up having to get a new park sensor & 3M rubber instant glue adhesive to fix one sensor.
Everything was exactly as advertised. I especially appreciated the Etrailer video describing the installation. It was very helpful. If I ever need another trailer hitch, Etrailer will be my go to source.
Perfect match for my 2020 Volvo XC40. Fits snug and close to bumper. Installation was a bit difficult but instructions and video straight forward. Will definitely order again from etrailer for my next vehicle.
