Video Transcript for Review of CURT Front Receiver Hitch - Visible Cross Tube - 31053

Hi everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our CURT Front-Mount trailer hitch receiver. It's a custom fit with a two inch opening when you're installed. Folks, this is a custom fit application. Looks like it's gonna fit in '08 through 2014, the Ford Vans, the E152, 50 and 350s.

But make sure you're double checking that with our fit guide [email protected]. Be sure you're getting the right parts the first time. Now, as always, we'd love to see photos and hear about your experience with the product once you've got it installed. And if you can reach out to us with any questions or concerns you have about this product and any other products as well. Now this front mount hitch will get a great point for maybe putting a winch, spare tire carry, snowplow cargo carry, and much more.

And you could also put a ball mount in it and maybe push a trailer back in place. Of course you're gonna get the fish wire, all the brackets and bolts and you need and everything, not brackets, rather these blocks that go inside the frame and get fished down and hold everything in place. The whole hitch has been precision robotic welded, so it's gonna maximize strength, improve the fit and make sure everything is nice, clean and rust preventative with a nice powder coat finish as well. It's a sturdy square tube design. You've got your safety chain or rather not safety chain, you got your hitch pin here for your 5/8th inch hitch pin to hold your accessories in place so there's no hitch pin included.

And then of course everything gets mounted up onto the frame, bolted in place with a quick, easy install. Just follow the instructions and you should have no problems. Well folks, I think that is gonna wrap it up for our look together. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.

Looks pretty slick, Clayton! Are you also towing/hauling something on the back of your truck?

@GwendolynY I'm usually pulling a trailer or boat. I also have a receiver mounted winch.

@Clayton Oh that sounds like a lot of fun. What kind of boat do you have?

I'm really satisfied with this front hitch for my 2010 E350 XLT Super Duty. Installation is a bit more complicated than described. I was able to complete the installation in about an hour with the van on the ground. I opted to completely remove the front bumper which is only attached by four nuts. This give complete access to the inside of the frame rails so no fish wire required. This also makes trimming the upper valance much easier. Enlarging the front hole was pretty straight forward. I only had a 1/2 drill bit, but the bolts still dropped in without issue. The hitch does interfere with the factory mounted front license plate which I simply removed. After the hitch is bolted in place, the lower valance will no longer fit without trimming. The instructions provide no diagrams for this so I had to do my best with a Dremel tool. After a minor trim, the valance still required a bit of manhandling to reinstall. The end result is very nice and I look forward to many miles of use.

Very easy install and everything I needed was included. I didn't have a 17/32" drill bit so I used a 1/2" and it worked fine. I pulled the front bumper off, it's only 4 bolts. I ended up having to trim splash guard more than instructions said and used 2x self tappers (M10) for 2 rear ward screws.

The hitch fit perfectly. The instructions showed it could be installed without taking of the front bumper, BUT it was VERY easy removing the bumper, which made it a snap installing the hitch. The instructions for cutting the plastic below the bumper was EXACT. The instructions for cutting the bottom plastic shield were wrong or misleading. But I made a few more cuts and it worked.

I got stuck and there was NO way to get pulled out without it.

Wow! Excellent front hitch to launch my boat and built better than the one on the tail of my motorhome. I could launch a 40 footer with this thing and not worry about the weight! Delivered quickly and the best of all help to mount it. Highly recommend!!!

We have not yet gotten the chance to install one of these yet here in our shops, so we do not have a video yet. We do have a link to the instructions, over on the right side of the page towards the middle. It is a pretty straight-forward install. You will need to enlarge two holes that are already in the frame with a 17/32 drill bit. You will also need to trim the fascia to create an opening for the hitch receiver.

Install was made easy with the bolt fishing wires included for getting the bolts into the frame. I really like the position just below the bumper and coming through the air dam. I had to trim a small square out of the air dam, and a good amount from from the sides of the splash guard that's under the radiator. I understand some people just remove the splash guard altogether. That would be fine too but I like the more finished look. Works great for my bike carrier and as a recovery point. I also use it to run a small plow for clearing my driveway (I'm in MN). When not in use I keep one of those rubber plugs in to keep debris out. 2013 Ford E350 Super Duty XLT EB.

Great item... but I did not try to mount it with the funky wire fishy things.... I just took the bumper off which is really not that hard to do or put back on at least on my '08 Econoline 250. And yes you do have to trim the plastic under part but that is no big deal either.

These guys are great! When I ever I've had an issue they are super professional and really help out. For example, I had a damaged item that I couldn't fix and reported it to etrailer. Next day the item is shipped and at my door shortly after. Awesome service! I always go here for the competitive price and exceptional service.

  • Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2000 Ford E450 Coachman RV
The CURT Front Mount Hitch, # 31053, only included up to the E350 RV Cutaway models but not the E450. Instead, you can use the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 65001. According to Draw-Tite, this hitch will fit the 2000 E450 RV Cutaway models. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

  • Recommended Snow Plow and Front/Rear Hitch for 2012 Ford E250 Van
For a front receiver, I'd recommend the Curt # 31053. For a rear hitch, if the vehicle is a van, and not an RV/Bus/Ambulance mounted to an E250 Cutaway Van chassis, I'd go with the Curt Class IV hitch, part # 14055. If you have a cutaway chassis, let me know and I'd be happy to make a recommendation. For a plow, the Detail K2 82 x 19 plow you'd looked at, part # K2AVAL8219 would be a great choice. The plow provides an electric winch to raise and lower the blade, which can be controlled...

  • Front Mount Trailer Hitch for a 2012 Ford E-350 Van
Yes, there are front mount hitches available for a 2012 Ford E-350 van. You can use Draw-Tite hitch # 65053 that you have referenced, or Curt hitch # 31053. Both hitches are rated for 500 pounds vertical line pull and 9,000 pounds line pull. I have included a link to the installation instructions for each.

  • Fit of Curt Front Mounted Receiver Part 31053 on 2010 Coachman RV on Ford E-450 Cab and Chassis
I spoke with my contact in Tech Support at Curt Manufacturing, who tells me that they have not tested this hitch on an E-450 Chassis yet. He said that the hitch will fit if the holes closest to the front of the vehicle measure 39.5 inches apart center-to-center, and the rear most holes measure 38.43 apart center-to-center. The Draw-Tite front mounted receiver, part # 65053 is an confirmed fit for your 2010 E-450 cab and chassis. For reference, I will provide links to the installation...

  • Recommendation for Bike Rack w/Ramp to Use on the Front of a 2012 Ford E-350
For the best ramped option to be mounted on a front hitch of your 2012 Ford E-350, I recommend going with the Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH903202. The EasyFold XT has a per bike maximum weight capacity of 65 pounds and comes with independently-adjusting cradles that fit virtually any bike frame style. With these cradles, you do not need to worry about purchasing a bike frame adapter bar if you have women's bike frames or step-thru frames....
